LIBB – Recommended Power Supplies
Recommended power supplies are listed below. For best results use linear or low noise switching models. Most linear designs and some switching power supplies will be suitable for use with LIBB. While LIBB can significantly reduce typical switching power supply noise (120-150 mVpp), the end solution will still be noiser than an average linear or low noise switching power supply.
For comparison of noise and ripple measurements, multiply mVpp (millivolt peak to peak) values by 0.70 to get the approximate mVrms (millivolt root mean square) value. So 10 mVpp is 7 mVrms, 5 mVpp is 3.5 mVrms and 3 mVpp is 2.1 mVrms.
For the lowest ripple/noise solution look at the Acopian PSUs below 100W (less than 12 Volts @ 9 Amps or dual supply +/-12V @ 4.5 Amps). They are well suited to large cases with high power needs. WARNING: The larger Acopian PSUs can emit excessive audible hum, as high as +11 dB over ambient levels for partial loading, and are no longer recommended. For the lowest cost linear solution look at the 3.4 or 5 Amp open frame PSUs from SL Power Electronics, Sola/Emerson, Bel Power Solutions or International Power. For smaller and lighter weight solutions look at the Daitron low noise switching power supplies.
